In the last two episodes, we talked about Heroes who have been at the forefront of sustainability and preserving the environment. We have seen brands, businesses and organisations in various industries across the world, embrace eco-friendly ways and methods in their processes and outcomes. Ultimately, it has always boiled down to reducing our carbon footprints, preserving the environment and protecting the earth the best way we can.
This cause is bigger than each of us but we like to think that put together, we are bigger than it. It’s our Earth!
On the other hand, It's bigger for some people than it is for others, but the effort, commitment and drive of one does not invalidate another’s “widow’s mite” as long as we are doing just what we can.
There are two notable Eco Heroes who have done the most individually and collectively to help solve the planetary crisis. Both of them, several generations apart and miles away from each other, have in unique ways made this cause their life work.

Greta Thundberg
“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words…We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”
Not many people have addressed World leaders the way Greta Thundberg has.
This Audacious lady first learnt about the Planetary crisis when she was eight. She hit the ground running and quickly gained recognition around the world when she stood outside her country’s parliament with a placard that stated: “Skolstrejk for Climate” ( School Strike for Climate). She was joined first by School Children in her country, then the awareness spread around the world and metamorphosed into “Fridays for Future.”
She became a vegan, refused to travel by aeroplane and sailed for 15 days by Yacht to the UN climate change conference where she gave what has become her most popular speech….yet😉.

Greta’s move has awakened a lot of people across the world to gain knowledge about the earth and joined the cause to preserve her.

David Attenborough
Sir David Frederick Attenborough has given a good number of years to educating the world about the earth.
He started out focusing on the wonders of the natural world while working as a writer and presenter with the BBC Natural History Unit. He later became very vocal about Environmental causes, advocating for natural preservation, reducing meat consumption, and shifting to renewable energy among others.
He has written and narrated a series of natural history including The Life Series, Blue Planet and others, all of which are focused on environmental issues, global warming, climate change. His latest Documentary film, “A life on our Planet” is described as his witness statement of his life and the future.
David Attenborough has won several awards, has been knighted and is even described as a natural treasure but all these don’t seem to move him. It is clear in his narrations, writings, the number of years he has put in and in his 2019 documentary “Climate Change” where he warned that failure to act could lead to “the collapse of our societies”, that he cares and is concerned for the future of our planet.
Greta and David have had conversations about this cause a few times and are very united in passion and determined to make the earth safe again.
Their lives teach us that no one is too young or too old to protect the earth, everyone has a part to play and we all can join hands, voices and resources together to make our earth liveable now and in the future.
